Bridal shower welcome sign: type a name and print

Bridal shower welcome sign maker: type the bride's name and the date, pick a layout and print a poster. Free to print. Free to print.

A bridal shower welcome sign needs three things: the bride’s name, the words “bridal shower” and the date. Type the name and date, pick a layout from the table below, then print on Letter for an 8 by 10 frame or save the image for an 18 by 24 poster. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Hosts usually make this sign last, and it shows. Do it first and the rest of the room follows the same look.

Layout table: five bridal shower welcome sign layouts and where they print

Pick the layout from the room, not from the font. Where the sign stands decides the size, and the size decides how much text fits.

Table: Five bridal shower sign layouts with the sizes each prints at (our estimate, assumptions below)

Sizes are in inches. Letter paper is 8.5 by 11. The list shows sizes where each layout stays readable. It is not every size the layout can print at.

Reading distance for an 8 by 10 and a poster

A sign vendor gives a rule of about 1 inch of letter height per 10 feet of distance. It was written for road and storefront signs, so treat it as an upper bound for a party. Guests read while they walk and talk.

We assume the name line is 10% of the sign height and the date line is 4%. These are our design choices, not a standard.

Table: Letter height and reading distance for the name and date lines (our estimate, assumptions above)

SignHeightName lettersName reads fromDate lettersDate reads from

11 by 17, portrait17 in1.70 in17 ft0.68 in7 ft
18 by 24, portrait24 in2.40 in24 ft0.96 in10 ft

A framed 8 by 10 works when guests walk right up to it, like a table in a small room. Past about 10 feet, move to a poster.

An 8 by 10 sign names the guest of honor from about 10 feet, and past that a poster is the better choice.

Shower sign sizes, to scale

Worked example: a Saturday brunch shower

Example: Priya’s shower, Saturday, April 17, 2027, doors open at 11 AM, Name first layout on an 18 by 24 portrait poster.

  • Name line: “Priya” is 5 letters at 2.40 inches tall. Our estimate says it reads from about 24 feet.
  • Date line: “Saturday, April 17” at 0.96 inches reads from about 10 feet.
  • Time line: “11 AM to 2 PM” sits under the date, at the same size as it.
  • The easel stands 8 feet inside the front door, so every line is readable on approach.
  • Image size for a print shop: 2,700 by 3,600 pixels at an assumed 150 dots per inch.

Drop the poster to 11 by 17 and the same easel still works at 8 feet. The name would read from about 17 feet, which covers most hallways.

What the sign should say

Short wins. A guest should read the whole sign in the time it takes to hold a door.

Good lines to pair with the name and date:

  • “Bridal shower” above the name, in small capitals.
  • A time range under the date. A vendor guide frames a shower as a two to four hour event and says guests should be told the range, so print both times.
  • One warm line at the bottom, such as “So glad you are here”.

Skip these on the sign: the street address, the registry link, the dress code and any note about gifts. Guests already have the invitation. Put the extras on a small card at the gift table.

Tap to copy, then paste into the maker and swap the brackets.

Where to put it

Put the sign where guests make a choice: at the door they enter, at the bottom of the stairs or at the end of the driveway. A sign inside the room is a photo prop, not a welcome.

Outdoors, a light poster catches wind like a sail. Lean it on a chair or weight the easel. Indoors, check for a bright window behind it, since backlight turns dark text gray.

If you are also planning the day, match the look to your shower theme so the sign, flowers and table share a palette. The same sign idea works later for the wedding itself, so see our wedding welcome sign when you get there.

Three mistakes and the fix for each

  1. Setting the date in a fancy script. Fancy scripts blur at 10 feet. Keep the date in the plain font and save the script for the name.
  2. Printing a small file as a poster. Edges go soft fast at 18 by 24. Check the saved image against the pixel size above, and print one size down if it falls short.
  3. Forgetting the end time. Guests who do not know when it ends either leave early or stay too long. Print both times.

For poster sizes in more depth, read the poster size guide. It works the same way for a shower.

  1. Type the bride's name as the guests know her, then the date and times.
  2. Pick a layout from the table and match the shape to where it will stand.
  3. Read the preview aloud once, checking spelling and the day of the week.
  4. Print Letter at actual size and trim for an 8 by 10 frame, or save the image for a print shop.
  5. Mount the poster on foam board and set it on an easel at the entrance.

Send the proof to the other hosts

Share the page with the maid of honor, the other hosts and the print shop. Ask each person to check one thing: the spelling of the name, the date and day, or the time range. One person per check catches more than three people reading everything.

Once the sign is settled, plan the afternoon around it. Pick the games for the same afternoon, work out how much food to make and have a card ready at the gift table with a few wishes for the bride. After the party, the thank-you notes go out. The whole shower plan lives in one place if the other hosts need it.

Questions people ask

What size is a bridal shower welcome sign?

Three sizes cover most showers. An 8 by 10 fits a frame on a table or shelf. An 11 by 17 suits a wall or a door. An 18 by 24 stands on an easel at the entrance. By our estimate, the bride's name reads from about 10, 17 and 24 feet at those sizes. Pick by how far guests stand when they first see it.

What should a bridal shower welcome sign say?

Put the bride's name first, then "bridal shower" and the date. Add a start and end time if guests might wonder how long to stay, since one vendor guide says to tell guests the time range. A short warm line such as "So glad you are here" works. Leave off the address, the registry and any gift hints.

Can I print it at home?

Yes, for Letter and 8 by 10. Print on Letter paper at actual size, then trim to fit an 8 by 10 frame, or use 8 by 10 photo paper. Letter is 8.5 by 11, so you trim half an inch off the width and an inch off the height. Posters need a print shop, so save the image and send it over.

Do I need a different sign for a couple's shower?

Use the Two names layout. It gives each name its own line at the same size, so neither looks like an afterthought. Change "bridal shower" to "couple's shower" or "shower for" and keep the date line unchanged. Check that both names are spelled the way each person writes them before you print.
