Looking for funny bridal shower games that will not embarrass anyone’s grandmother? Use the picker on this page. Every game below carries an audience rating, so you can mix a crowd of aunts and best friends without guessing. Choose three or four, shuffle the cards and print one for each guest.

Games are optional. One vendor guide says to plan them only if the guest of honor wants them, so ask her first.

Group sizes and minutes are our planning estimates from how each game runs, not measured results. Minutes assume a host who keeps the pace moving.

Read the last column first. Five games are safe for all ages, three need a look at who is coming, and two belong to adults only.

What the ratings mean

Safe for all ages. Nothing physical, nothing private, nothing about the honeymoon. A grandmother, a flower girl’s mother and a coworker can all play without a flinch.

Check the room. The game is clean, but it relies on stories or on acting. It lands with friends and flops with strangers. Look at the guest list before you commit.

Adults only. The jokes are suggestive. Run these after the older guests have left, or in a separate room, and never as a surprise to the whole party.

Shuffle, then print

Press shuffle and the card changes. The mad libs swap their blanks and the quote slips change order, so nearby guests are not working from identical sheets. Keep pressing until the set looks right, then print.

  • US Letter and A4 both work. Keep scaling at 100 percent in the print dialog.
  • Mad libs fit two to a page. Advice cards fit four to a page, ready to cut.
  • Print two spares for every game. Drinks spill, and someone always loses a pen.

Run a funny game in 5 steps

  1. Choose the games from the table by audience rating, not by title.
  2. Print the cards and count two pens per guest before the day.
  3. Say one sentence to start each game and name when it ends.
  4. Play the quiet game first and the loud game after cake, when people have loosened up.
  5. Give one small prize per game, then go back to the food and the talking.

For prize ideas that cost very little, see what to give the winners.

A worked example: 24 guests, a 150 minute shower, two grandmothers

Example only, with assumptions we state. Your numbers will differ.

Assumptions: 24 guests, a 150 minute shower, US Letter paper, and only games rated safe for all ages because two grandmothers are coming. Layouts: 2 mad libs per page, 4 advice cards per page. We add 2 spares to every printed set.

Our pick, with hosted minutes:

  • Love story mad libs: 10 minutes
  • Quote the groom: 10 minutes
  • Funny advice cards: 8 minutes
  • Toilet paper gown: 12 minutes
  • Hosted total: 40 minutes, which is about 27 percent of the party and under our one third limit of 50 minutes

To print:

  • Mad libs, 26 sheets at 2 per page: 13 pages
  • Advice cards, 26 cards at 4 per page: 7 pages (6.5 rounded up)
  • Quote slips for 6 teams of 4: 1 page
  • Toilet paper gown: no printing, 8 teams of 3 need 8 rolls
  • Total to print: 21 pages

Swap in your own guest count. Divide by the cards per page, round up and add the spares.

Mixing a crowd without a scene

The rule is simple. The game has to suit the most easily shocked person in the room.

  • Two generations, mostly family. Use only the safe for all ages games. Add one check the room game if you know the guests well.
  • Friends of the bride only. Any mix works. Save the adults only games for after the cake.
  • A shower with a spicy corner. Run the safe games for everyone. Then announce a short break and invite the friends who want the adults only game to stay. Nobody is trapped.

Do not use an adults only game as the closing game for the whole room. The guest of honor ends up apologizing to her future mother in law.

Mistakes that kill a funny game

Jokes only half the room gets. A quiz built on private memories shuts out everyone else. Mix how the couple met, favorite foods and a few harmless habits.

Forcing people to perform. Anything with a volunteer standing up should be an invitation. Pick people who already want the attention.

Embarrassing the bride for real. A laugh at her expense should still be one she would repeat. Ask a close friend to read every prompt first.

Running every game back to back. Funny needs air. Put eating, talking and gift opening between rounds.

If you want a calmer game for the quiet corner, try the bingo card with a shuffle. For a guessing game that needs only a photo, see guess the dress.

Where to place them in the afternoon

Put the quiet games in the gaps and the loud one near the end. Games should never run over the main moments of the afternoon.

  • Arrival: hand out mad libs at the door. People waiting for others have something to hold.
  • While eating: pass printable advice cards down the table.
  • After cake: run toilet paper gown or quote the groom, the two games that need the whole room.

Our full set of bridal shower games has the quieter options for the rest of the day. To plan the rest of the shower, start from the hub.

Send this page to the other hosts

The ratings settle most arguments. Send them to the co-hosts and let everyone vote on three games before you print.

Questions people ask

What are funny bridal shower games?

They are short games where the laughs come from the people, not the prizes. Think a love story mad lib, guessing which quote came from the groom, or wrapping a bride in toilet paper. The table above rates all ten, so you can see which ones are safe for every guest and which ones are for adults only.

What games work with older guests?

Pick the five rated safe for all ages. Mad libs, quote guessing and advice cards play from a chair, with no standing, no touching and no private jokes. Toilet paper gown works too, because grandmothers can judge it from their seats. Keep the adults-only games for a separate corner or a later hour.

How many games are too many?

Three or four is plenty for a shower of any size. Our planning rule is to keep hosted game time under one third of the party, so a 150 minute shower holds up to 50 hosted minutes. After that the party feels like a quiz show and guests stop talking to each other, which is the point of coming.
