A wedding emergency kit is one set of small fixes packed into three bags, each with its own carrier. For a party of eight, our estimate is 37 line items and 219 pieces: 28 in the fix-it bag, 118 in the beauty bag and 73 in the comfort bag. Tick items off above as you pack, and change the party size to rescale every count.
Most lists online give you a flat pile of items. That breaks down on the day, because one person ends up holding a tote the size of a toddler. Splitting by bag fixes that. It also stops two people from buying the same lint roller.

Assumptions behind the tables:
- Party size is 8 people, counting both partners.
- Per-person items use a fixed rate: 2 safety pins, 4 bobby pins, 2 hair ties, 2 blotting sheets, 3 cotton swabs, 2 water bottles, 2 snacks, 2 bandages, and 1 each of lip color, straws and blister pads.
- Shared items use one unit per group: 1 stain remover pen per 4 people, 1 hairspray per 4, 1 tissue pack per 2, 1 pain reliever packet per 4, 1 hand sanitizer per 4, 1 umbrella per 4, 1 power bank per 4.
- Single items such as the sewing kit and the folder are 1 for any party size.
- Totals: 11 fix-it lines (28 pieces), 12 beauty lines (118 pieces), 14 comfort lines (73 pieces), 37 lines and 219 pieces overall.
- Every rate is our own packing estimate, not a measured figure.

How the counts change with your party size
Per-person items grow with every head. Shared items grow in steps. Single items never grow. That is why a party of twelve does not need a bag three times bigger than a party of four.
Table: Counts at four party sizes, using the same rates (our estimate, assumptions above)
| Item | Party of 4 | Party of 8 | Party of 12 | Party of 16 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Safety pins | 8 | 16 | 24 | 32 |
| Bobby pins | 16 | 32 | 48 | 64 |
| Water bottles | 8 | 16 | 24 | 32 |
| Blister pads | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 |
| Straws | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 |
| Stain remover pens | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Hairspray cans | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Clear umbrellas | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Sewing kit | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| All 37 lines, total pieces | 120 | 219 | 320 | 419 |
Read the last row as an example of the shape. Doubling the party from four to eight takes the kit from 120 pieces to 219, not 240, because the single items stay put.
Who carries each bag, and when it changes hands
A kit nobody can find is a pile of snacks. Name a carrier for each bag before the wedding and tell them in person.
- Fix-it bag: your maid of honor or closest friend. They stay near you through getting dressed and photos.
- Beauty bag: an attendant who is comfortable with makeup, or your stylist’s helper if you hired one. This bag moves with your face and hair.
- Comfort bag: your best man, a sibling or your planner. It parks at the reception table and gets raided at cocktail hour.
Hand each bag over before hair and makeup begins. The day follows your wedding day schedule, so give the beauty bag carrier a copy and let them see when touch-ups matter most.
Steps: packing, from four weeks out to the morning of
Times below are our estimate for one person doing the work. Share the load with your carriers.
- Four weeks out: count your party and name three carriers. Counts scale with headcount, so this comes first. About 10 minutes.
- Three weeks out: order the long-lead items. Fashion tape, spare buttons and foldable flats are easy to find late and slow to ship. About 40 minutes.
- Two weeks out: ask about allergies and skin. Check latex, adhesive and fragrance before you buy bandages and wipes. About 20 minutes.
- One week out: pack all three bags. Tick each item, then tape the printed list inside the lid. About 60 minutes.
- Two days out: check dates and charge. Look at medicine expiry dates, and charge both power banks. About 15 minutes.
- The night before: stage the bags. Put each one by the door with its carrier's name on it. About 15 minutes.
- The morning of: hand them over. Tell each carrier where the bag sits during the ceremony. About 10 minutes.

Weather and venue add-ons
The base table assumes a mild day. Weather changes a handful of counts. Here is what we would add for a party of eight in three common cases.
Table: Add-ons by weather for a party of eight (our estimate, assumptions below)
| Situation | What to add | Pieces added | New kit total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outdoor summer | 1 more sunscreen, 1 more bug spray, 1 extra water bottle each, 4 folding fans | 14 | 233 |
| Rain in the forecast | 2 more umbrellas, 2 microfiber towels, 8 clear ponchos | 12 | 231 |
| Cold day | 8 hand warmers, 4 shawls or spare jackets | 12 | 231 |
Assumptions: sunscreen and bug spray rise to 1 per 4 people, water rises to 3 per person, fans are 1 per 2 people, umbrellas rise to 1 per 2, towels are 1 per 4, ponchos 1 per person, hand warmers 1 per person, wraps 1 per 2. The base total is 219 pieces.
Indoor venue with a coat check? Skip the ponchos and warmers. Use the questions to ask your venue to learn where bags can be stored and whether outside food is allowed.
Five mistakes that empty the bags early
- One giant bag. It sits in the car while you need a pin. Fix: three bags, three carriers, each within arm’s reach of its job.
- Full-size bottles. Hairspray and sanitizer add weight for no gain. Fix: travel sizes, since the counts above are for a day, not a month.
- No labels. The carrier forgets what is inside. Fix: tape the printed list in the lid and tick items as they are used, so a refill is easy.
- Skipping personal medicine. The kit holds single-dose basics, not prescriptions. Fix: each person carries their own, and the folder lists any allergies.
- Packing the night before. You discover the thread is the wrong color at 10 PM. Fix: pack a week out, then recheck.
If you only have three days
Cut the kit to its core. These ten lines solve most wedding day problems. Our estimate for a party of eight is 110 pieces.
Table: Three-day core kit for a party of eight (our estimate)
| Item | Qty |
|---|---|
| Safety pins | 16 |
| Sewing kit | 1 |
| Double-sided fashion tape | 1 |
| Stain remover pens | 2 |
| Bobby pins | 32 |
| Blister pads | 8 |
| Adhesive bandages | 16 |
| Water bottles | 16 |
| Snack bars | 16 |
| Pain reliever packets | 2 |
Buy the first four in one drugstore trip. Ask your stylist whether they already carry bobby pins, since many do. Pack one bag, hand it to your closest friend, and add the rest of the list if time allows. Your broader to-do list is in the full planning checklist.

Questions people ask
What do you put in a wedding day emergency kit?
Pack three groups of items. Fix-it items handle clothing, such as safety pins, a sewing kit, fashion tape and a stain remover pen. Beauty items handle hair and faces, such as bobby pins, blotting sheets, lip color and tissues. Comfort items handle bodies, such as water, snacks, blister pads and bandages. For a party of eight our estimate is 37 line items. Scale each count to the people actually getting ready.
What is a wedding emergency kit?
It is a small set of supplies for problems that show up on the wedding day itself, like a torn hem, a smudged lip, a blister or a dead phone. The point is speed. Someone nearby fixes it in a minute, so photos and the timeline keep moving. It does not replace a planner or a stylist. It covers the loose parts they might not carry.
Who should carry the wedding emergency kit?
Give each bag its own carrier so nobody holds everything. Your maid of honor or closest friend takes the fix-it bag. One attendant takes the beauty bag. Your best man, a sibling or your planner takes the comfort bag. Pick people who will stay close during photos and the reception, not guests who arrive late or leave early.
Does a wedding emergency kit for a bride differ from one for a groom?
The core list is the same, because torn seams, blisters and dry mouths ignore the guest list. Add a few pieces for what each person wears. A gown may need extra hem tape and a veil pin. A suit may need collar stays and a spare tie. Our table covers the shared items, so add two or three outfit-specific ones to the fix-it bag.
How early should I pack the wedding emergency kit?
Pack it about a week before the wedding, then check it two days out. That gap leaves time to replace the one item you cannot find and to charge power banks. On the morning of the wedding nothing should need shopping. Put each bag by the door with its carrier's name on it, so the handoff takes seconds.
